Poster classics

A decade ago the profession talked about poster art as a dying genre. However, the genre has been transformed and modernized, and while preserving its peculiar attitude, is flourishing again, thanks to the graphic artists, designers, art historians, collectors, professional organizations who felt that this peculiar art form on the border of fine arts and commercial graphics, which entertained for decades making our streets more colourful cannot just disappear.

After 10-15 years it seems the genre has found its place again, providing an opportunity for new generation to express themselves in this special and unique visual language we call poster art.

Significant artists of the second golden age of Hungarian poster art are still here, we can learn from them and they can answer our questions. The next project on the poster wall of Szimpla will exhibit works from that period: works by József Árendás, István Balogh, István Bakos, Ferenc Baráth, Péter Dékány, Krzysztof Ducki, Gábor Gyárfás, György Kemény, Gyula Molnár, Kálmán Molnár, István Orosz, Sándor Pinczehelyi, Nándor Szilvásy, Károly Schmal...

It is a special joy and honour that some of the artists will be there in person at the opening, where we can have a discussion about POSTERS.
